Two main turning points in this trilogy might have been hinted by John Williams in his scores. The first one is Snoke having been created by Palpatine, which could have been foreshadowed by Williams using Palpatine's leitmotif in Snoke's scenes in "The Force Awakens." The second one is Luke finally becoming the Jedi master he was destined to be, shown by Yoda's theme being used when Luke manages to rise his X-Wing at last. This way, Williams uses already known themes for characters they weren't meant to, showing how they're evolving in that specific direction.
