It's a common misconception that this film inspired TV's Happy Days (1974). The original pilot for that series, aired (as a segment on 'Love, American Style') before Lucas even began production on this film. However, the success of this film (and also 'Grease' on broadway) made the 'Happy Days' producers reconsider and turn their idea into a series.
