The cast members credited as "Aspiring Composers and Lyricists" at the workshop are all played by established musical theatre composers, lyricists, and playwrights. At the time of the film's release, the 23 credited actors/writers have a combined 11 competitive Tony Awards out of a total of 40 nominations for Best Score, Book of a Musical, and Orchestrations. Four of the writers also have a combined seven nominations for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama with two winners in the room (Quiara Alegría Hudes and Tom Kitt). Jonathan Larson and Stephen Sondheim are both Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winners, though neither character is played in the scene by the respective real-life figure. Director Lin-Manuel Miranda is also a Tony and Pulitzer winner.
