The existence of both Wes and Sam in this film may cover for the fact that Judy was a red herring in Scream 4 (2011). Early in the film, Sam mentions that she used to babysit Wes when he was younger so it's possible Judy's extended absence during Scream 4 (2011) can be explained away by her checking up on the two of them.
