According to the Arnold Schwarzenegger book "The Life and Times," Cameron contacted Schwarzenegger, who was going to visit his friend Bruce Willis for Christmas, to come back to shoot the crucial scene. Ultimately, Schwarzenegger had to cancel his plans and film it. The scene where the Terminator pulls the impaled metal rod out was shot on Christmas day.
