While the role of Galgo was written specifically for Antonio Banderas, Danny Trejo was considered for the part. Banderas and Trejo have worked together in Desperado (1995), Spy Kids (2001), Spy Kids 2 - L'isola dei sogni perduti (2002), Spy Kids - Missione 3: Game Over (2003), C'era una volta in Messico (2003), Spy Kids 4 - È tempo di eroi (2011) and Machete Kills (2013), as well as the documentary about Trejo Champion (2005).
