In the novel, Asami had another victim who was a teenage boy, prior to meeting Aoyama. He was wheeled in by his mother to the restaurant where both Aoyama and Asami were having a date. As soon as the boy saw Asami, he had his mother wheel him back out in a panic. This character was adapted out from the film, as it lessened the shock of Asami sawing off Aoyama's feet, since his crippled state heavily foreshadowed what she would do to him.
