Visual foreshadowing: at the beginning of the film when young Ally and her mother are waiting for the train, you can clearly see the Twin Towers in the NYC skyline behind them. Later, when Tyler is in the elevator going up to his dad's office, you see the floor count increasing above 88, which is the first hint that he's in the towers and, given the timing (morning, sometime after Labor Day in 2001), will be hit by the planes as they crash into the upper floors of the towers.
