There's several Terminator (1984) references throughout the film. Phoebe and Cole use Terminator 2 - Il giorno del giudizio (1991) as a reference point, and Melanie states that Cole is a Terminator fan and will be back. The Babysitter and Terminator series both feature the original's antagonist returning as a protector of the main character in the sequel. McG also directed Terminator Salvation (2009).
