In the Robert Crais novel this film is based upon, Mars was far more psychotic and brutal. In t book, the scene in which Jennifer escapes from Mars happens when Mars is distracted while dragging the tip of a nail down her cleavage and digging it into the skin above her heart. In the film however, he just approaches her menacingly while taking off his jacket.
