In 2010, Arthur Darvill (Groom) joined Doctor Who (2005) as Rory Williams, the boyfriend of The Eleventh Doctor's (Matt Smith) new companion Amy Pond (Karen Gillan). Patrick Troughton, who played The Second Doctor on the show, had played Robin Hood in the 1953 mini-series, and his grandson, Sam Troughton, played Robin Hood's sidekick Much on Robin Hood (2006). In season eight of Doctor Who (2005), The Twelfth Doctor (Peter Capaldi) and his companion Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman) meet Robin Hood (Tom Riley).
