George Lucas has said that three of the male leads represent different parts of himself: Curt is his creative self, Milner is his gear-head car aficionado side (Lucas was nearly killed as a teenager when he crashed his Fiat sports car) and Terry is his nerdy, awkward side. Lucas has said that the only male lead he couldn't relate to was Steve, the popular one.
