Named Zeus in the script, the "Zombie King" is portrayed by actor and stunt performer Richard Cetrone. Makeup head Justin Raleigh reveals that as Zeus, Richard was covered in silicone prosthetics from the waist up. The complex appliance makeup included a full chest piece and a full back piece. It was also made up of triceps, biceps, a wraparound shoulder piece, forearm pieces, top of the hands, and a full seamless neck. Along with these pieces, the makeup featured a cowl and six more appliances for the face. "Obviously we had to design the pieces to allow a lot of open areas so they had room to stretch. The armpits, in-between the bicep and tricep, most of the joints, we tried to leave open to give some range there." Raleigh added they "sometimes would use a cooling vest over [Cetrone] to keep his body temperature down." Raleigh wanted the king zombie's skin to look as if it had lost all of its melanin, so Fractured FX used silicone for this character because of its translucent quality. Raleigh describes the paint job as "a walking bruise." He elaborates, "We wanted it to feel like it was transformed flesh, as opposed to rotting flesh," like the Shamblers. The goal was to create depth with subdermal bruising. To achieve this effect, all of the silicone pieces were back-painted. "So you can really see deep inside the piece." Raleigh stated that everything was pre-painted before leaving the shop so they could get all of the layers that they wanted into it. Final painting was done once everything was applied. To top it all off, Richard Cetrone wore custom yellow and orange contact lenses and deformed and discolored teeth.
