"The Sorcerer's Apprentice" was based on the 1797 poem "Der Zauberlehrling" by German poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. The music for it was based on Goethe's poem in 1897, hundred years later, by French composer Paul Dukas as "L 'Apprenti sorcier".
