There's a scene where Cody looks under the bed for the monster, doesn't find him, and then pulls himself of back up to the bed, just to see the monster (a zombified Tate the bully) sitting there the whole time right next to him in a jump scare moment. In the next shot we see the monster/Tate pulling Cody under the bed. This is all possibly an homage the original Poltergeist, when Robbie battles the evil clown toy in his room.
