At the beginning of the castration scene when Jeff begins his incessant crying and pleading, there's a shot of Hayley's back turned to him. This wasn't scripted - Elliot Page found the screaming so distressing that he began to cry. Director David Slade notes that Page turned his back to the camera in order to wipe the tears away, and then continued with the scene.
