Celina Jaitley was first considered for the role of Sonia Roy. She later went on to portray the role in this movie's southern remake SHRIMATI. Coincidentally, the same year, Jaitley was offered the title role in another bold themed movie JULIE which dealt with a woman voluntarily taking to prostitution after being duped by her boyfriend. Jaitley again declined, stating a woman cannot be portrayed so weak in will to be unable to move on from a fraudulent lover.
