Belgian directors Hélène Cattet and Bruno Forzani required more funding to make the film than they could raise in Belgium. French producer François Cognard agreed to co-produce, even though they only had a third of their projected budget raised. However, he was happy to give the duo the go-ahead based on their experience of making short films for very little money.
