It took Vladimir Nabokov six months to draft his first screenplay which ran to 400 pages. Producer James B. Harris remarked "You couldn't make it. You couldn't lift it!" The end result was credited to Nabokov (who received an Academy Award nomination) but it was extensively rewritten by Stanley Kubrick and Harris.
