This is the only Open Season movie to have a theatrical release. Boog & Elliot 2 (2008) and Boog & Elliot 3 (2010) were not released theatrically, instead being released straight-to-DVD, which only took two years to make. Additionally even though this movie was a success, the sequels were not released theatrically since Columbia Pictures wouldn't let Sony Animation release any sequels theatrically until they purchased and acquired Sony Animation in 2010.
