The black suit storyline in Spider-Man 3 is adapted from the 'Alien Costume Saga' that ran from May 1984 to April 1985. This arc had previously been adapted as a three-part storyline in the first season of Spider-Man (1994) titled 'The Alien Costume' (later released on DVD as Spider-Man: The Venom Saga). The Spider-Man: The Animated Series version of this story was subsequently adapted as a comic in Spider-Man Adventures Vol 1 #8-10 (July-September 1995). Sam Raimi's movie lifts elements from all three of these sources, as well as the first Venom storyline in the Ultimate Spider-Man comics.
