In a successful attempt to beat Avatar as the highest grossing film worldwide, a feat that has been undefeated for 10 years, Avengers: Endgame's theatrical run was extended/rereleased with 6 mins of additional footage to draw in viewers. However, in March 2021, Avatar rereleased in China and regained their top spot in the box office.
