This story was filmed twice before - La donna che non si deve amare (1931) and Il ponte di Waterloo (1940), both set during World War I, and in turned based on the play of the same title that opened on Broadway at the Fulton (later Helen Hayes) Theatre, 210 W. 46th St., on January 6, 1930 and ran for 64 performances.
