The lead female characters are called Leela and Amy. In Doctor Who (1963), the Tom Baker incarnation of the show's title protagonist "The Doctor" had a female companion named Leela, a barbarian warrior (played by Louise Jameson), and in Doctor Who (2005), the Matt Smith incarnation of the "The Doctor" had a female companion named Amy, a Scottish kissogram (played by Karen Gillan).
