Malcom mentioned in the beginning of the movie that his mother had white features because she was raped by a white man, never mentioning her background and leaving the audience to assume that she was raped by a slave holder. In reality, Malcom's mother wasn't even born in the American south; rather was from the French Colony of Grenada in the Caribbean, after being emancipated by the British Royal Navy. Her family was Creole with West African French and Scottish blood. She met Malcom's father in Montreal Canada which is a French city in Quebec. They were both followers of Marcus Garvey who was also a Caribbean African descendant born to a wealthy family in Jamaica.
