This film's success, combined with that of Warner Brothers' 1953 3-D film House of Wax and William Castle's film The Tingler, helped propel character actor Vincent Price into becoming Hollywood's "King of Horror" and making him popular enough that he was given above-the-title billing in several low budget Roger Corman-directed adaptations of Edgar Allan Poe stories in the early 1960s, all of which made a profit.
