When Jim Prideaux asks one of his students to hand out papers, the boy begins imitating Quasimodo and chanting "The bells, the bells!" to the rest of the class' amusement. This is an artifact from an earlier draft of the script, in which Prideaux has been left with a malformed shoulder as the result of botched surgery after having been shot by the Soviets, causing him to appear to have a hunched back. While this element is present in the book, it was removed from the film (presumably to spare Mark Strong from having to wear a prosthesis), although the boy's imitation was left in the film.
