This became the first Spider-Man movie to features more than one arch-enemy. Both James Cameron and Sam Raimi originally planned this idea for their previous films with both Carlton Strand/Electro & William Boyd/Sandman appearing in the cancelled Spider-Man: The Movie (1994), both Dr. Norman Osbourne/Green Goblin and Dr. Otto Octavius/Doc Ock in Spider-Man (2002), as well as both Felicia Hardy/Black Cat and Curt Conners/Lizard in Spider-Man 2 (2004). This fell through because director Sam Raimi eventually dropped the 2-against-1 concept in favor of making more plot developments of Peter spending more time with one-sided fraternal and paternal ones such as Harry and Norman while Otto wasn't originally meant to be Peter's role-model at the time of his production.
