In her 2021 memoir "The Beauty of Living Twice," Sharon Stone said she didn't want to remove her panties for the infamous interrogation scene, but director Paul Verhoeven assured her that her crotch wouldn't be visible on-screen. But during a screening with the entire crew and all the agents and producers involved with the film, she saw that her crotch was clearly visible. Angry, she said she got up, went to the projection booth, and slapped Verhoeven. Then she called her lawyer. Stone wrote that he informed her that she could move to stop the film from being released because it was illegal to film up her dress. But later she decided to allow the scene to be included because it was right for her character. Verhoeven said in a 2017 interview that Stone lied about not knowing her crotch would be visible. He said, "Any actress knows what she's going to see if you ask her to take off her underwear and point there with the camera."
