Director Victor Fleming did not attend the world premiere of Via col vento (1939) in Atlanta, Georgia. He stayed behind in Los Angeles, California to attend the funeral of his mentor, hunting companion, and good friend, Douglas Fairbanks, the great silent star for whom he had been chief cinematographer twenty years before.
