In a slight nod to the novel, Carrie is shown to briefly contemplate simply walking off the stage after the blood dump, and only stays after both the shower video is played for the audience and Tommy's death push her over the edge. In the novel, she runs out of the gym, with someone tripping her in the process, before she finally decides to lock everyone inside the gym from outside the doors and start killing people.
