At the time of this film, Newport Beach and Balboa Island were small but well-known boating and fishing communities south of Los Angeles. Present day Orange County was still largely an agricultural area of citrus groves and other crops. But just east of the coast, over in a place named Anaheim, plans were under way for a new project that would change the local landscape forever.
