It was an intentional artistic choice for director Pablo Larraín to shoot this movie entirely on 16mm film, so as to capture and re-create the vintage look of the 1960s. Another period piece that came out at the same time to use this technique was Il diritto di contare (2016), shot entirely on 16mm and 35mm film.
