Milo and Cassia's death is mirrored in a similar scene in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016) which in that movie, the main character's Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) and Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) embrace and are engulfed by the approaching blast from the Death Star's superlaser.
