Audition has been described as an influence on "torture porn." The term was invented by David Edelstein to describe films such as Saw - L'enigmista (2004), La casa del diavolo (2005) and Wolf Creek (2005) that offer "titillating and shocking" scenes that push the audience to the margins of depravity for them to "feel something".
