The film started shooting with an incomplete script, as the ending had not been finalized by the time filming began. The screenwriters didn't come up with a way for the terrorists to escape the building until much later, and as a result, the truck depicted as transporting the terrorists to the building is actually too small to house the ambulance that is later revealed to be inside it; in fact, when the terrorists exit the truck in the beginning, the ambulance that is supposed to be inside is nowhere to be seen. In I film della nostra infanzia: Die Hard (2019), director John McTiernan acknowledged the inconsistency, but stated that he could be bothered by those few viewers who still remembered that empty truck two hours later. Other scenes also lacked context: the building's computer room was built before anyone knew what it would be used for.
