The "American Pie 2" script was being handled with "CIA-like secrecy" and "if you're deemed worthy of sneaking a peek, a messenger will arrive at your office, remain posted outside your door... and grab it back when you're done." Universal was very strict, even with returning characters. Each script had the actor's last name watermarked on each page in big letters down the middle to deter copying. Additionally, Universal included a note with the scripts claiming that "Any unauthorized copies or distribution can and will be traced," further warning that whoever copied the script would be hunted down and mauled by a pack of grizzly bears. After reading the script, the actor's agent was then required to immediately FedEx the script back to Universal.
