There was speculation that Matt Smith's character is Tim (played in Terminator 2 - Il giorno del giudizio (1991) by Danny Cooksey), John Connor's friend who got pushed aside by the T-1000 when it tracks Connor down at the arcade. Matt Smith's character is really a physical manifestation of Skynet.
