On account of the need to rebuild sets and models when the production switched from a television series to a big-budget feature film, the production was already ten weeks behind schedule before a single frame was shot. Robert Wise repeatedly considered quitting the production, and at one point, even suggested that Paramount Studios cancel the project altogether.
