It seems odd that Stands with a Fist's hair is consistently messy and disheveled throughout the film when all the Native Americans are wearing their hair neatly and beautifully coiffed, even the men. Her hair is also obviously layered, rather than grown out one length similar to what most of the people around her are wearing. One can only assume that Mary McDonnell (or the director) chose to wear her own hair and not a full wig, even though it's apparent that she's wearing a wiglet or fall to make her hair appear longer in some scenes.
