The cartoon's second half is set to William Costello's 1931 novelty recording of "You're Nobody's Sweetheart Now". Among his scat-singing tricks the nascent voice of Popeye can be briefly heard. This recording led producer Max Fleischer to cast Costello as the spinach-eating swab the following year.
