In addition to having begun life as a remake of/homage to L'attacco delle sanguisughe giganti (1959), several characters in this film are named for various members of that film's cast and crew, including Roger Corman, Bernard L. Kowalski, Michael Emmet, and Leo Gordon. Another character is named for two regular bit players in Corman's films, Dick Miller and Jonathan Haze.
