The opening scene in this tenth movie, in which Sharpe saves Ross (Wellington's Head of Intelligence) from three French dragoons (by killing two and then having to bluff the third one into retreat with his empty rifle) parallels the opening scene of the first movie of the series, "Sharpe's Rifles", in which Sharpe saved Wellesley (Wellington) from three French dragoons in pursuit (by killing all three, using one of the dead Frenchmen's pistol to shoot the third one).
