In the comics, investigative photojournalist Vicki Vale was introduced as both a love interest to Batman and as a constant threat to his secret identity (because she keeps noticing or uncovering clues that everyone else misses). She was reportedly patterned after reporter Lois Lane, who had the same dual role in the "Superman" comic book series.
