Some of Jacques Henri Lartigue's photographs, including the picture that inspired the mock of Max in a go-kart, are featured on the wall behind Max's desk in the opening scene. The title of the photo is "Zissou's bobsled with wheels, after the bend by the gate, Rouzat, August 1908". Bill Murray's character in Wes Anderson's Le avventure acquatiche di Steve Zissou (2004) is "Steve Zissou".
