The film continues the franchise's direct inspiration from John Carpenter's Halloween - La notte delle streghe (1978) and its respective franchise. In this installment, Mindy cites David Gordon Green's Halloween (2018) in the requel rules that the killer or killers are following. Like Halloween (1978) popularizing the fully fledged slasher film subgenre, Green's Halloween popularized the requel slasher film. Scream 2 (1997) takes inspiration from Il signore della morte (1981) following onto a more elaborate elevated killing spree in pursuit if the final girl survivor. Scream 3 (2000) following trilogy takes notes from the Halloween III - Il signore della notte (1982) featuring the film within a film display of the iconic series killer with new plot additive that reveal new exposition. Scream 4 (2011) following the rules of a horror remake of taking things to a new extreme pays direct reference to Rob Zombie's Halloween - The Beginning (2007). Scream: la serie (2015) Season 3 also does so with Zombie's Halloween.
