Sandman is able to travel on the wind by turning himself into sand particles as was the case in Amazing Spider-Man Vol 1 #4.Spider-Man's first fight with Sandman contains several visual references to Amazing Spider-Man Vol 1 #4. In both stories, Spider-Man tries punching Sandman in the stomach when he first meets him, only for his fist to go through Marko's torso. Sandman is able to enlarge his hand. He also turns his hands into giant mallets. Their first encounter in both the movie and the comics ends with Sandman making a clean getaway.
