On March 19, 1943, the film was banned in the Republic of Ireland for infringing on the Emergency Powers Order preserving wartime neutrality for portraying Vichy France and Nazi Germany in a "sinister light". It was passed with cuts on June 15, 1945, after the war had ended. Cuts were made to dialogue between Rick and Ilsa referring to their past love affair.
