Originally there were supposed to be cutaways to Charles's reaction as Ella sings "I Remember," but director Paul Bogart was so captivated by Charmian Carr's live performance that he opted to linger on her for the entire duration of the song. Bogart was vocally critical of many of his own directorial decisions but he remained proud of the way the scene turned out.
