Bill Murray famously protected Wes Anderson from a difficult Gene Hackman. Ironically, decades earlier, Dennis Hopper had kind of done the same for the director of Hoosiers, since Hackman hated him and was extremely rude to him on set. The difference being, Hopper played both sides, keeping the actor and director apart, whereas Murray sided completely with Anderson for this picture (having worked with him in Rushmore).
